Beresford Booth supports the mission of Northwest’s Child “to empower individuals with disabilities through a comprehensive day program that fosters community integration, enhances social skills, promotes continued education, builds meaningful relationships, and develops essential life skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.”

Northwest’s Child/Aaron’s Place

Northwest’s Child is non-profit organization that opened its doors to its unique extended day program for school-aged children and teens (aged 5-21) with moderate to severe developmental and physical disabilities. Their year-round day program extends services beyond the regular school day until 6:00 p.m. offering much needed support to families of those children and teens.  The program is in our own Edmonds community at Maplewood Presbyterian Church which offers superb facilities.  There is a playground surrounded by a secure fence and lots of space for the many activities. The staff works hard to create positive learning experiences and opportunities for the students to enjoy the outdoors and neighborhoods.  Students are encouraged to interact with the community regularly to provide important connections with others.  The number one goal “is to promote independence, nurture social skills, and foster meaningful relationships with fellow students and staff” to help provide a smooth transition into adulthood.

In addition to serving school-aged children, Northwest’s Child established Aaron’s Place to help provide much needed full-day services for young adults who recently graduated from high school at age 21 and have limited opportunities to enjoy fulfilling daily activities.  These young adults have various special needs that may include physical and developmental disabilities that prevent them from enjoying personal independence and integrating fully into the community. Aaron’s Place operates year-round and offers a variety of social, vocational and independent living activities and skills for its young adults. The staff includes a head teacher and a number of assistants that work one-on-one with the individuals they serve.
